Hi, I’m Becca. I’m not a financial advisor and that’s kind of the point.
I’ve got no fancy pantsuit (although I’ve always secretly wanted a bright red one), no license framed up on my wall and no window office with a city view. What I do have is something most financial content out there doesn’t: I’ve actually lived through these scenarios, struggled to fund my retirement accounts, tried every side hustle in the book, lived paycheck to paycheck…and I happen to love numbers.
I’m not going to tell you that I grew up poor and I’ve made myself into a self-made millionaire. That just isn’t my reality. I didn’t grow up in a household on any extreme side of finances: we weren’t poor, but we certainly weren’t wealthy. I was definitely the kid with the paper bag lunch instead of the fancy lunchables in the cool Lisa Frank lunchbox. I was the kid that read all the Harry Potter books last (I am the middle of three girls) because my mom didn’t want to spend money on more than one copy of each book. My family was comfortable, but they were frugal, and that was for a reason. I was given a small allowance but no one ever taught me how what I should do with it. I definitley was never taught how much it could grow through compound interest if I started investing it early. Nobody sat me down and explained credit scores or index funds or why the electric bill matters more than it seems. I learned about money the way a lot of us learn about it…by making mistakes.
I have always loved numbers, loved analytics and loved Excel (I know, wierdo). Yet somehow, I was always finding myself zeroing out after every paycheck. I’m a mom now, and I want more for my child, more for my family. I want to build real wealth that enables myself and my family to have the freedom to spend time together, experience the world together, and not spend our fleeting moments filled with anxiety that we can’t make the next mortgage payment.
Everything on this site is written by someone who is actively building the financial foundation that was never taught to her. It is written by someone who is building small businesses in the evenings while working a full-time job, and living an actual life in the middle of it. This isn’t a theory, this isn’t a lecture…this is real life and I am finding it out as I go, just like you.
Why this site exists
In my hundreds of hours scouring the interent for financial advice, I’ve found that most personal finance content has one of two problems. It’s either written by experts who are oblivious when it comes to inflation and what a true middle class working family’s finances actually looks like today (“if you just max out your retirement accounts and you’ll be set”), or it’s a lengthy blog article on how survey sites and TikTok will make you rich in 90 days. Neither is advice for someone who barely has enough money to invest in the first place and values their worth more than to spend 5 hours accumulating a $5 sign-up bonus and $0.90 from taking 10 surveys from an app on their iphone.
Her Money Her Methods is my way of sharing my experience with other women (or anyone who wants to listen) in a practical, specific, and judgement-free space. Budgeting that makes sense for the real chaos that is life. Investing explained like a friend would explain it. Free calculators that give you your numbers without the lecture.
The methods here are the ones I use, have used, or have stress-tested against real research. When something’s just my opinion, I say so. When I haven’t tried something, I say that too.
What I am and what I’m not
Here’s the honest fine print, in regular-sized letters because let’s be real my eyes aren’t great anymore.
I am a woman who has done the work: dug into the research, built the systems, made the mistakes, and turned all of it into content I wish someone had handed me years ago.
I am not a licensed financial advisor, accountant, or attorney. Nothing on this site is personalized financial advice. This is about education and my own experience. Your situation is yours; for decisions with big stakes, a licensed professional who can look at your full picture is worth every penny, and I will always tell you when something is professional-help territory.
Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you choose to buy through them, at no extra cost to you. It is very important that you know I only recommend things that I truly beleive it and that I would recommend to a good friend. The full legal version of all this lives in my disclaimers.
Weirdly enough, I think that’s exactly why you can trust me and what you find on this page. I’m not selling you a portfolio of stocks, I’m showing you my methods so that you can feel good about your decisions and so that you can start creating the type of life you actually want to wake up to.
See you on the other side.
